Attack on titan is peak fiction
During quarantine, when I would just rot in my house playing Valorant and watching tik tok; I would keep seeing these edits about Attack on titan. People kept calling it “peak fiction”, and because I had nothing better to do with my life, I decided to watch it. After watching it I can confidently say Attack on Titan is the epitome of peak fiction. From the very first episode to the final season, it is continuously reinvents itself in different ways. What makes the structure of Attack on Titan so compelling is how each season feels distinct, yet all of them are intricately woven together to form a complex and layered narrative.
In the beginning, Attack on Titan begins is a pretty cliche survival story: humanity is trapped within walled off cities, where they have to live life in fear of the man-eating titans. However, this premise is just the surface of what the show has to offers. By the time you reach Season 4, what started as a story about simple survival has transformed into a tense geopolitical thriller; even though the change is so drastic, it all makes sense.
The plot progression of the story constantly keeps the audience on its toes, with every new revelation setting the stage for an even bigger one. Each reveal in the story feels natural and often reshapes the entire direction of the plot. The structure is built on major reveals, where each season builds towards a crescendo of revelations, and just when you think you have a grasp on the direction, it pivots and changes the trajectory of the story in unexpected ways. For example, when we first discover the truth behind the Titans, it opens the door to an even larger mystery, one that expands the scope of the world. I’m not trying to spoil too much, but there are so other many major reveals
The structure of Attack on Titan is what sets it apart from most other works of fiction. Its ability to evolve and continuously reinvent itself to keep it fresh and exciting. Every twist and turn in the story just lead to the next step, and it eventually leads to a beautiful ending. This is truly the peak of fiction and my short blog doesn’t do it justice; I highly recommend that you give it a chance if you got the time.
