Modernism has influenced the structure of America. In order to understand modernism, you must have to understand how it came to play at what it is. Modernism began in the early 1900’s and lasted almost until the 1960’s. It started because nobody wanted to deal with the trauma of World War I and World War 2, which both took place in a single era. So, people started to reject their traditional values and began to adapt to new lifestyles where could do whatever they want without being bound to social restrictions. However it didn’t only affect society, it also changed the way literature could be written. In literature, modernism gave birth to groundbreaking works that experimented with narrative forms, presenting new perspectives on reality and thoughts. However, it had huge changes on society, an example of this is flappers, the proper etiquette for women was to work in the home, but flappers changed this etiquette and brought extreme feminism into the world by wearing flashy cloths and sleeping with random dudes. Modernism continued to unravel Americas traditional moral values things like cancel culture, feminism, and free thinking started to emerge, however after people’s trauma from the war began to fade so did modernism. However, all its ideals continued to effect America and whittle away at the common Americans’ lifestyle. Traditional families used to heavily be main dominated and extremely religious. For an example around 91% of people were christens, however nowadays is only 63%. Modernism really influenced the way America functioned, even though the lost generation (generation that created modernism) ended the ideals of modern continue to shape America demanding equality, freedom, and pleasure while straying further and further from the old-fashioned core American values. In essence Modernism wasn't just a rejection of tradition; it was a celebration of freedom, and self-expression. Its legacy endures, shaping the way Americans think about tradition and culture.
