Short-form content has cooked me

To be honest, I’m not sure what makes me laugh anymore. I’ve been consuming so much short-form content that I feel like I’ve lost the meaning of what what truly makes me laugh. I have relied on what’s trending on social media for so long now, it has complete control over what makes me laugh.

This short form content hasn’t just been from the Tiktok and Instagram era. It started back when I was in elementary school. Back then, it was those Vine videos and “try not to laugh” challenges. Those moments of instant dopamine release where fun, but now, it feels like that constant quick humor has overpowered my authentic feelings for humor. Obviously, I still have good hearty laughs with my friends and family, but besides that, there isn’t one specific thing that will always make me laugh.

It has evolved into my laughing at whatever’s new and slightly interesting. It could be anything; Some new trending meme, some new type of slang, or even a stupid video. At this point, I can't even pinpoint it(I had an extremely hard time creating this list because I don't even know what makes me laugh anymore). My sense of humor seems to just follow the flow of whatever is trending online.

I feel like my relationship with humor is sort of like a paradox, where I find myself laughing at a lot of things, yet nothing feels truly humorous to me. But isn’t what’s humorous extremely subjective? And after a joke is told, you become familiar with it, so then doesn’t the joke just become stale? Then you’re forced to find something else that humors you.  So, what makes me laugh? Well, it's somehow everything and nothing at the same time.
